SRAM RED Chain - Flattop | 12-speed - 120 Links - silver
The SRAM RED 12-speed chain represents a complete new development. Equipped with the unique Flattop™ link shape, the chain is not only lighter and narrower, but nevertheless also more stable. This design creates more space on both sides between the outer plates of the chain and the sprockets of the cassette, which allows in the result faster as well as more precise shifting operations and ensures a quieter chain run.

Flattop™ | In order to realize the larger ratio range of X-RANGE™ cassettes and to allow correspondingly smoother, smaller-step gear changes, it requires a narrower chain. To ensure that durability does not suffer, SRAM has added material to the flat side of the outer plates and hard-chrome plated the rivets, inner plates and bushings. This way, the Flattop™ chains not only outperform the 11-speed models in terms of durability, but are also at least as efficient.
Hard Chrome™ | Thanks to a special machining process for the inner links and rollers, the hard chrome-plated chains from SRAM achieve a four times higher wear resistance. Also in terms of push pin strength and overall strength, the extremely stable and durable Hard Chrome™ chains do not have to hide from other current models.
HollowPin™ | This construction method is used in the top models among SRAMs chains, the PowerChains. The HollowPin™ technology not only reduces the weight to the lowest possible for a full pin chain, but also provides a stronger plate adhesion and more effective gear changes in front and rear.

An sich entspricht das Produkt den Erwartungen. Einziger und doch nicht unerheblicher Kritikpunkt: Das Kettenschloss ist Silber und nicht Rainbow. Wenn man hier schon den Aufpreis für die Farbe zahlt, ist das nicht wirklich nachvollziehbar. Hier sollte SRAM nachbessern…

Habe die Kette nun bei etwas über 4000 km gewechselt. Die neue Kette läuft sehr gut auf den "alten" Kettenblättern und Ritzel. Wenn ich die Kette erst bei 9000 km wechseln würde und mich dann wundere, dass die anderen Teile auch verschlissen sind, wie es in einer anderen Bewertung zu lesen ist, dann sollte man den Fehler eher beim Nutzer suchen, anstatt die Kette dafür verantwortlich zu machen, dass man mit einer Messlehre nicht umgehen kann.

SRAM Flattop Kettenverschleissmesslehre

Die SRAM Flattopkette hat einen von der ISO606 Norm abweichenden Rollendurchmesser (siehe auch SRAM Homepage). Meist verbreitete Kettenverschleissmesslehren basieren auf ISO konformen Rollen und prüfen nicht in Belastungsrichtung sondern spreizen die Kette an den Rollen. Bei SRAM Flattopkette wird damit eine zu geringe tatsächliche Streckung ermittelt. Prüfung mit einer Verschleisslehre die in Belastungsrichtung wirkt, d.h. die Rollen bei der Prüfung in eine Richtung drückt wie auf den Ritzeln, bspw. dem Park-Tool Chain-Checker CC-4 können alle derzeitigen Ketten im Fahrradbereich inkl. SRAM Flattopkette korrekt geprüft werden.

Ja, die Kette an sich hält wirklich sehr lange, und jetzt kommt das ABER: Ich habe die Kette nach ca. 9000km gewechselt (untere Verschleißanzeige noch nicht ganz erreicht). Nach dem Wechsel knarzt das kleine Blatt völlig erbärmlich bei >300W. Alte Kette wieder drauf: Kein knarzen. Ich kann nun den kompletten Antrieb wechseln und nur empfehlen, die Kette früher zu wechseln. Eine mögliche Erklärung könnte auch sein, dass die Härtung nun zu mehr Verschleiß an den Alu-Kettenblättern führt.

Ich kann die Laufleistung des Vorschreibers deutlichtoppen. Mein Gravel habe gebrauch gekauft mit knapp 500km auf der Uhr. Ich selbst bin aufgezeichnette 5783km gefahren - alles mit dieser Kette. Ein Verschleiß ist mit der Kettenlehre nicht sichtbar. Meine Ersatzkette liegt immer noch im Schrank ...
